Pese a la crisis, seguirá la búsqueda de extraterrestres

Tanto la NASA como la Agencia Espacial Europea tienen previsto para este año ambiciosas misiones, algunas de las cuales ya se pusieron en marcha.

Las ambiciosas misiones espaciales que no se han visto afectadas por la crisis se desarrollarán este año, en el Año Internacional de la Astronomía, se trata de la búsqueda de visa extraterrestre y el estudio del campo gravitatorio de nuestro planeta.

según publica el portal 20minutos, a principios de marzo, la sonda Kepler partió hacia una remota zona de la Vía Láctea en la primera misión de la NASA concebida exclusivamente para buscar exoplanetas donde podría haber vida similar a la Tierra, y que estén en una zona cálida en la que se pueda mantener en su forma líquida el agua, esencial para la formación de vida.

Pocos días después, la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) lanzó el satélite GOCE, que estudiará el campo gravitatorio terrestre y servirá, entre otras cosas, para medir las variaciones en la circulación oceánica y el nivel del mar.

La ESA tiene previsto además el lanzamiento de los satélites Herschel y Planck; en un principio está planificado para el próximo 14 de mayo. Herschel estudiará la formación de estrellas y Planck, por su parte, analizará los campos de radiación cósmica.

En julio, la agencia europea quiere iniciar la misión SMOS para estudiar la humedad del suelo y la salinidad de los océanos, y para noviembre la misión Cryosat-2, que hará observaciones de la criosfera y ayudará a explicar la conexión entre la pérdida de hielo polar, la subida del nivel del mar y el cambio climático.

En diciembre la NASA prevé llevar un nuevo módulo a la Estación Espacial Internacional. Además, ha puesto en marcha un proyecto con dos naves gemelas con el que se intentará descubrir el origen de la Luna.

Y es que 2009 viene cargado de experimentos y proyectos relacionados con el espacio.

Actualmente hay 3.300 satélites en órbita, de los que están operativos únicamente 800, según datos de la ESA…[]
